Snapchat has announced the launch of its latest feature, an OpenAI-powered chatbot named My AI, exclusively available to its Snapchat+ subscribers. The new feature, based on the OpenAI ChatGPT technology, which is also utilized by Microsoft's Bing AI, aims to provide recommendations on gift ideas, weekend plans, and recipes, among other things, to users.
However, given the well-documented limitations of Bing's OpenAI-based chatbot, Snap has warned that the My AI chatbot "can be tricked into saying just about anything." The company also apologized in advance for the chatbot's many deficiencies.
Despite this, Snap's founder and CEO, Evan Spiegel, is optimistic about the transformative potential of AI technology. During the company's fourth-quarter earnings call, Spiegel discussed how AI technology would change the way users communicate with their friends and family. He believes that AI chatbots like My AI will become a part of users' daily conversations.
In an interview with The Verge, Spiegel reiterated this belief, saying, "The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we're going to talk to AI every day."
Snap's launch of My AI follows recent AI-backed releases from Microsoft and Google, which have also unveiled their conversational AI products. Google, for instance, announced the release of its conversational AI product called Bard, which is designed to mimic the flow of a human conversation.
The use of AI chatbots has become increasingly popular, with many companies utilizing them to offer better customer service and support. AI chatbots can also be used to personalize the user experience, provide recommendations, and automate tasks, among other things.
In conclusion, Snap's latest feature, My AI, is an OpenAI-powered chatbot that aims to provide personalized recommendations to Snapchat+ subscribers. While the chatbot's limitations have been acknowledged, Snap's CEO is optimistic about the transformative potential of AI technology. With the launch of My AI, Snap joins other tech giants such as Microsoft and Google in the race to develop advanced conversational AI products.
